Just a quick shot (well, not so quick - 30 seconds) of the new moon and Venus over the hill...incoming clouds and city lights make for an interesting glow :D

same view, different camera and photographer...

We had the same view! Well, almost! No pretty glow down below like yours! I didn't get any pics, though. I like this!

I was so concentrated on trying to get just the moon and venus that I wasn't really aware of the clouds (except for the glow right on them) until my daughter showed me what she'd just taken [link]

You almost wouldn't know that those two pictures were taken at the same place! Both are cool in their own rights!

 Her little camera (it's an Olympus - just below their DSL) has amazing capabilities that I can't match with my knowledge of my Nikon at times - available low light is one of those! :D

Sometimes those little cameras can do big things! :D I had a Canon Powershot S2 IS that I started with and it had super macro mode, plus 12x optical zoom. I had bought a converter tube for it and added filters, including an infrared one, and took a picture that is #2 in my gallery. It's funny, though....I upgraded to the S3 IS and haven't been able to get a decent infrared shot out of it. It was stolen so I'm looking to buy a new backup camera....I'm looking at the Canon SX10 since it has 20x optical zoom and the same flip-out screen plus movie capabilities. I might have to wait to get it, though....I'll only have so much money to work with and my DSLR setup comes first!

her Olympus is like a 500mm equivilant...:wow: 18x maybe? can't add tubes or anything but it does decent macros...she did the research, chose it and paid for it herself sith her highschool graduation gifts and her pay from her graphic intern job...she and her dad are talking about sharing a used dslr (maybe a Nikon D40 to use my extra lens) if we can find a decent one...

keep an eye on craig's list for a used replacement for you!

I looked on Craig's list but the only good stuff is all in the Seattle area, which is quite the drive for us. I think it would best if I got new, since I take more pictures than what seems humanly possible. :giggle:
18x zoom is really good. I am thinking of getting the Canon Powershot SX10 with 20x zoom as my backup camera, but it's about $350 so it's not cheap.
I am also thinking of getting my son a camera, but I haven't said anything to him yet. It all depends on what I get from the insurance.

lol, seems like we're always waiting to see what we get from insurance

we ended up getting quite a nice little check for our rear-ender in my husband's truck :w00t: he hasn't decided if he can live with the damage yet, if he can then we'll use it to pay off my car :D

Cait's Olympus was somewhere around $450 almost two years ago...I'm sure it's come down since then...I think you're probably right about going new-don't want to inheirate (spelling?) someone else's problems...
