Haven't had much time to explore but decided to go down a road named "Lost Lake Road"...several "Private Road" signs later came to this view...an interesting mixture of pine trees, lupin and prickly pear cactus!

In the back there's a sign on the fence that says "You've been trespassing since the ridge - go back" so we did!

lol... don't feel bad - i too just shot a bunch of pictures of an amazing rock formation and waterfall, after walking past a "no tresspassing" sign. i justified it to myself by saying, "oh, they probably mean no DRIVING past the sign." then i saw a ton of graffiti painted on the rocks - and beer cans, so rationalized they just meant "no drunks with spray paint allowed" past the sign :D

those prickly pears and lupines make a great combination - who woulda thunk it? maybe you can recreate the view next to a driveway on your property? ;)

 I just mentioned the recreation idea to my daughter and she said "NO, it's hard enough getting down this driveway without adding spikey cactus!" I have to admit the drive is steep and curls back on itself...at one point in the turn when we're in my husband's truck you loose sight of the paved road and feel like you're hanging out in thin air!!! It's ok in my car, lower and smaller, and we'll get Cait a small car/suv so she'll not have that fear...we're also looking at putting up some kind of visual barrier - like reflectors on posts...

lol... well, maybe in a different, less traveled area on your property - we have prickly pear cactus in two different places in our back yard - one with yellow flowers on a very, very steep, rocky slope, the other, with brilliant pink flowers, in a rocky area in an isolated corner.

i should put up some pics :)

The 200+ degree view we've got is the rolling hills with oaks, but on the other side of the ridge is much more granite and rugged mountain looking...and Lake Tahoe is about an hour away...but we don't have the ocean any more
