I'm sorry, lol! I thoroughly understand about not wanting to work where the yellow jackets hang out!! We had them bad down in southern California - up here in northern California, not so many...but we've got tiny scorpions inside the house instead
I'd try the feeders even without finishing the yard - except for my little deer-fenced plot our land is "natural" (rolling hills of grass with oak trees...) and the hummers find us
I have a feeder, but I've never used it. I guess I always wanted to have the kind of yard that would naturally support wildlife, so they wouldn't be dependant on me. I have roses, sage and lavender which pretty much take care of themselves, and my husband planted sequoia's a few years back, so I just need to keep working it. Thanks for the inspiration your photos bring!
We've got a "self sustaining" garden too - I don't have my mother's green thumb with annuals, lol! We also have the lavender and sage - which the hummers love so I'm sure a feeder would just be desert for them Let me know if you have any questions...
