A strong thunderstorm had swept through the western part of North Carolina...we seemed to be following the clouds and got very little rain or wind though some major damage was done a few hours before we got there...

From an overlook on the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway.

We didn't get any of this, though we heard the next day that where the storms were they had done some damage with over turned trees (one of the reasons we live at 1500' in CA and not at 4000'

I like my spread out oaks and not hemmed in by pines...)

we left on last Friday (the beginings messed with flights but we ended up only about 45 minutes late - not too bad with a cross continent flight with connections), just missing the horrible weather and wind from this past weekend! no damage at our friend's house but weather over 100F would have been no fun at all
