(wallpaper sized)

Playing with Dynamic HDR program...a wide angle view of "my" valley from our driveway...about a month and a half ago (middle of April); now everything is browning off, sadly...

This is the shot dreams are made of! Are these your garden flowers or do they grow wild?

these are wild  I only have a small garden area right near the house [link] between the house and garage over to the little shed on the right.

Thanks for the link. I'd forgotten that picture. Poppies are something that I'm only familiar with in planted garden beds so to think of them as wildflowers was odd but I guess they had to come from somewhere!

the wild ones, at least around our house, are much smaller than the ones that are now used for gardens - they've been bred larger and almost a different color!

here's a link to the site of a women in our local camera club's shot that I regretfully did not go to get :faint: [link] It was a great poppy year up here but it was horrible in southern CA at the poppy preserve [link]

Wow, I could get lost for days in Betty's website! That shot of the poppies is just one of her spectacular shots. Our Canadian fields of wildflowers weren't a single variety like that but they were just as covered in blooms. I bookmarked the other site to go back to because the data is really interesting. Funny how things can be so different.

She is really wonderful - she taught for years at the local jr. college but now spends more time with the occasional workshop or trips...would love to have the cash to go on some...

There are areas where things do get mixed - I love it when the lupine and poppies blend...I think the time of year matters too as the poppies are one of the first to bloom - showing the best before the weather gets warmer and the grasses start getting too tall.

I think we all dream of having the cash to do these things. As crazy as it seems I would love to go with Art Wolfe on one of his trips. He seems to have such a way with people and it doesn't matter if they speak the same language or not. I don't know if you've ever watched a Creative Live broadcast (on the internet) but I watch/listen quite often and ended up in contact with one of the photographers they had. We're now planning his trip here to teach a workshop or two. I've been able to get the backing of the camera club and the local camera store so I'm sure it will be a good turn out but I'm wondering if I'll have enough spare cash (and time) to be able to attend.
