This unknown duck was trying to blend with the multiple mallards on a wider spot of Taylor Creek near Lake Tahoe - all were enjoying the eggs being laid by the spawning Kokonee Salmon

The beak shape and flesh around the eye made me know that it wasn't a common mallard :laughing: ...dark shade made getting this shot a bit of a challenge...maybe a Teal duck?

No I think it's a male juvenile Wood Duck coming into his grown up plumage!

Yeah, I think that is the agreement :nod: I just forget that these are wild birds up here! Down in southern CA we only saw them IN the zoo :giggle:

Most colorful duck I know is a wood duck. So, that would be my guess.
